Award Citation:

Dr Das has made landmark contribution to string theory. He showed that for a special class of black holes a microscopic calculation in string theory reproduces not only the black hole entropy but also the exact expression for the Hawking radiation thus going a long way towards resolving the Information Paradox associated with Black Holes.
