Award Citation:

Dr Mitra has distinguished himself through his original work on inorganic paramagnetic complexes like metalloporphyrins and low-symmetry transition metal complexes using the technique of single crystal magnetic anisotropy and NMR. These studies have provided a better understanding of the electronic structure of these systems. He has contributed significantly to the measurement of single crystal susceptibilities and in general to magnetochemistry.
