Dr Ghosh has made significant contribution in theoretical and experimental structural geology. Through ingeniously designed experiments, he established the geometrical relationships of the axial surfaces of folds with the principal planes of deformation and elucidated different types of fold interferences. He carefully analysed the variation of strains in superposed folds and explained the mechanism of rotation of early lineations by later folding. Dr Ghosh has developed a theory on the fundamental aspects of conglomerate deformation utilizing the principles of deformation of non-homogeneous materials. His analysis of the mechanism of distortion of planar structure around rigid bodies is of significance in structural geology
